I used to be proud to be an American. Damn proud. But that was before I realized that our politicians traded in our individual rights for collective rights. We spilled a lot of blood in the jungles of Korea and Vietnam fighting Lenin's credo of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need." Guess what? Take a look at the progressive income tax we have today. The top 1% pick up 33% of the tab, and the bottom 50% only contribute a piddlin' 4%. It's that bottom 50% that today's American politicians target with their pork and scare mongering.
My wife and I work damn hard for our money and put up with bosses who have the IQ of a potato, just so politicians can take a large portion of it away and buy votes with it. No sir, I am not proud to be an American today. However, I still believe in the ideals of the original America, and it's IMHO still the best place to live.
